WHAT IS BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE THERAPY?

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy is a common term for the treatment of conditions caused by the effects of hormone deficiencies resulting from menopause. Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy uses hormones that are identical in their molecular structure to the hormones produced naturally within the human body.

Bioidentical Hormones is also used more generally to describe the practice of using only bioidentical hormones in the treatment of all hormone deficiencies, not just menopause. These include perimenopause, which is the time of change leading into menopause, and andropause in men.

HORMONES ROLE IN THE BODY

Hormones are chemicals that are produced within our bodies. They are responsible for each stage of our development and growth from infancy through puberty, reproduction, and old age. Hormones maintain the chemical balance within our bodies by controlling major functions including our metabolism, our immune system, our reproductive systems, our nervous system, and others.

Hormones are natural substances which function as messengers to stimulate cells to heal, reproduce and rejuvenate. During the aging process hormone production declines and in parallel the symptoms of aging and the risk for age related diseases rise.

THE IMPACT OF DECLINING HORMONES

During perimenopause as well as menopause women lose height, get weaker, lose mental functioning as well as their sexual drive, and notice drying and wrinkled skin as well as decreased sensitivity to touch. Male menopause is commonly referred to as andropause, and is marked by a decline in sexual function. The symptoms of menopause and andropause can be reversed via restoring the hormones to youthful levels.

As this hormone decline happens our overall health and immune system begins to decline. We lack the vitality, energy, strength, physique we once had and we get fatigued easier. As a result of hormone decline many people don’t feel well, although they are not clinically diagnosed as having a particular condition. The deterioration seen in normal aging, results in coronary artery disease, muscle atrophy, osteoporosis, sleep disorders, depression, and mood disorders. Much of this is caused by a decrease in hormones. By restoring these hormones to their youthful levels it is now possible to strengthen and bolster our bodies as well as our minds. We can improve and reverse many symptoms and signs that we have come to associate with aging. We can also regain the youthful resilience, which protects us from the stressors of daily life.

Replenishment of these hormones to optimal, physiological levels has been shown to alleviate these age-related changes. Treated correctly people look and feel better as they lose weight, increase muscle mass, increase libido, increase arousal, increase orgasm, and get rid of their depression.

BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE PATIENT REVIEW

I am a patient of Dr Regina Forster going back to 2011. When I first saw her I was dealing with hot flashes and night sweats every day. I also felt tired, had sleepless nights, memory was gone. My thyroid was a mess as well. I was a walking toxic mess.  My B-12 and D-3 were off the charts! After meeting her and her husband, Andreas Schmitz and getting blood work done, they went over my eating habits, generally my life style and discussed what changes I needed to make if I wanted to get better.  I was so surprised that Functional medicine really looks at the whole picture of your health. Within a month she was able to get my hormones balanced with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy no more migraines, sleeping so much better and stopped the hot flashes and night sweat!!!! Did I mention she gave me back my life!  She was able to get me off depression and sleeping meds as well.  If you want a Dr that cares about you as a person and your health and looks at getting your health back from a holistic approach call her. Both Dr Forster and her husband, Andreas Schmitz have a team approach to my well being. I am so grateful that I found them..
